Sound healing is a profound practice that supports transformation on the energetic, emotional and spiritual levels, guiding you back to your true essence. Whether you’re new to this healing modality or a seasoned practitioner, it’s important to understand that the effects of sound healing can vary from person to person.

Different Experiences

After your session, you may find yourself feeling a variety of sensations. For some, it’s a feeling of deep relaxation and bliss, leaving them calm and ready for a restful night’s sleep. Others may experience a surge of energy and feel revitalized, while some might notice mild symptoms, such as feeling a bit under the weather the following day. All of these reactions are completely normal and part of the healing process.

Why Do These Effects Happen?

Sound healing works by using vibrations and frequencies to clear emotional blockages and stagnant energy within the body. It encourages your system to rebalance. As energy is released, your body may go through a temporary detox process.

Both pranayama breathwork and sound healing also support the production of nitric oxide in the body – a naturally-occuring molecule that plays a key role in regulating the nervous system and overall physiological balance. Increased levels of nitric oxide help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, guiding the body out of a “fight-or-flight” state and into “rest-and-digest,” where true healing happens.

Nitric oxide promotes vasodilation – the relaxing and widening of blood vessels – which improves circulation, lowers blood pressure and enhances oxygen delivery to tissues. This increased blood flow supports the removal of metabolic waste and encourages healthy lymphatic drainage, both of which are essential for detoxification.

It also plays a role in immune function by regulating inflammatory responses and supporting the body’s natural ability to repair and release stored stress and toxins. In addition, nitric oxide supports communication between nerve cells, enhancing clarity, focus and emotional balance.

As these processes are activated, your body may move through a temporary detox phase. This can sometimes bring about symptoms like fatigue, headaches, emotional release or even mild flu-like sensations. While these symptoms may seem uncomfortable, they are actually a positive sign - a sign that the body is clearing, rebalancing and integrating on a deeper level.

What to Do If You Experience Detox Symptoms

Just as physical healing can involve temporary discomfort, emotional and energetic healing may also bring up sensations that feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable or even intense. These are natural signs that deeper layers are shifting and releasing. If you find yourself experiencing any detox symptoms, feel tired, emotional, or achy after a session, there’s no need to be concerned - it’s your body’s way of rebalancing itself.

The Best Aftercare:

  • Hydrate. Drink lots of healthy fluids such as filtered water (add lemon or electrolytes), herbal teas, fresh juices, coconut water.

  • Eat grounding, nourishing foods such as root vegetables, whole grains, warm soups and stews. These support the healing process, stabilise your energy and help you feel more centred and anchored.

  • Slow down and prioritise rest and sleep. Allow your body to integrate the experience, and trust that the process is unfolding exactly as it should.

  • Journal. Sit quietly and listen to what comes up. Write down your thoughts and feelings to process emotions and what arises.

Sound healing is a deeply personal journey, and its effects vary depending on your individual needs, circumstances and energetic state. Whether you leave a session feeling peaceful, uplifted, or moving through a temporary detox, know that it’s all part of the healing process.

Embrace it. Trust the journey. And remember: your body and spirit know the way.
